Muller e nena na ciencia
International Day of Women and Girls in Science
The General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed February 11 as "International Day of Women and Girls in Science" to:
- Make visible the work of women who work in science and technology in order to create female role models for children who can contribute to the choice of these areas as professional careers.
- Know the different factors that affect the current situation of women in the STEM areas to encourage practices that lead to their elimination and achieve gender equality in the scientific field.
For this reason, from the CITMAga we joined this celebration by carrying out different activities aimed at students from early childhood, primary, secondary and university education.
From CITMAga we encourage you to attend the conference "Muller científica = Bicho raro", which M. Elena Vázquez Abal, professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and researcher linked to CITMAga, will hold in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Mathematics (USC ) next Wednesday, February 7 at 5:00 p.m.
We are waiting for you!
In this conference, the professor made a historical tour of those women who, invisible and relegated to the background in the public and academic sphere, contributed to creating social, biostatistical, astronomical and technological advances throughout human history. Through her words, we learned how difficult it was for female scientists to achieve positions of responsibility and recognition in their careers and, despite inequality and the historical gender gap, from CITMAga we will continue to contribute to the development of the new generations of mathematicians and scientists which will hold the key to social change in the coming years.
