Abstract:
In this talk, we show a numerical model based on spectral methods for the simulation of heat transfer due to radial irradiation microwave applied to samples in cylindrical geometry.
A three-dimensional temporal model is developed which couples heat and momentum equations and Maxwell equations. The model includes the temperature dependence of the dielectric properties. The numerical model is validated with experimental data for solid and liquid samples.
Simulations are performed to analyse the effect on the temperature distribution of the sample's dimensions, its properties and external effects as rotation of the system. The comparison with other mechanisms of heating such as conventional heating is also addressed. The results open new possibilities in the prediction and understanding of the thermal behaviour of a solvent under microwave irradiation with interesting applications in physics and chemistry.
