Abstract:
Soft tissues are often subject to internal and external forces, as well as microstructural changes, which manifests as transformation between different types of extracellular media. These changes and forces are often caused by cells that pull or push on their immediate surroundings. Such biophysical processes are important in cancer development, but also in skin or organs after deep tissue injury. The talk will review some mathematical models that take into account morphoelasticity and the porous structure of tissue. We will see stability of steady-states, numerical methods and machine learning that aims at accelerating the computations. Furthermore, clinical application of the modelling work will be discussed in the wake of burn injuries.
